Xakanaxa

Big game, big birds, big water - Xakanaxa Camp is one of the pioneer safari camps in Botswana's Okavango Delta. Its prime location on the banks of the Khwai River on the Xakanaxa Lagoon in the heart of the Moremi Game Reserve ensures that it is one of the only safari camps which can provide guests with an authentic year-round Okavango Delta land and water safari experience. As the custodians of one of Botswana's very first safari camps, the owners of Xakanaxa Camp (pronounced Ka-ka-na-ka) have gone to extraordinary lengths to preserve its original African bush camp character whilst providing guests with every comfort.

Activities

The game drives in this sector of Moremi, take one through a large variety of different vegetation types, down winding tracks, through mopane forests, and across lush grasslands. The waterways are either forded by vehicles or crossed on rustic log bridges. The camp faces out over the Xakanaxa Lagoon on the Khwai River, where boat trips lead into the sinuous channels of the Delta, one of Africa's greatest natural wonders. The game in the area includes just about everything imaginable - all of the Moremi games can be seen on the game drives, including tsessebe, lechwe, wildebeest, impala, waterbuck, elephant, sable, and giraffe. The predators are prevalent and lions are often heard calling in the early mornings. Leopards, wild dogs, and hyenas are often sighted. Birding in the area is excellent, especially in the spring and summer months, when the migrants are breeding, see the bird checklist. Boat trips and game drives are conducted by a team of experienced, professional game guides. The camp consists of luxury, spacious safari tents, with en-suite facilities. They are fully equipped and tastefully furnished. The dining room is open-fronted with reed walls and a thatched roof and has a fully stocked bar. Centrepiece in the dining room is a dining table, tailor-made in old railway sleeper timber. Wholesome meals, candle-lit dinners, and a selection of fine wines will more than satisfy you. The service is personalized and of a high standard. A rustic and friendly atmosphere prevails. [formidable id="18"]
